This 3-month course introduces school students to the creative and technical world of YouTube content creation and filmmaking. From planning and filming to editing and publishing, students experience the full journey of a digital content creator. The course nurtures confidence, creativity, storytelling, and digital skills, helping students navigate and thrive in the media-rich modern world.

Understanding YouTube & the Digital Content Space

Students learn the origins and importance of YouTube, types of content, and how to create their own channel with a clear niche.

Filmmaking Foundations

Covers storytelling, scripting, pre-production planning, and equipment essentials like cameras, lights, and microphones.

Shooting Techniques & Post-Production & Editing

Students practice various camera angles, movements, lighting setups, and smartphone shooting techniques to produce professional-looking videos. Learners explore video editing software, how to cut, trim, and enhance videos using music, effects, titles, and transitions.

Branding & Publishing

Students develop personal branding, create channel intros/outros, learn about SEO for YouTube, and understand how to publish and monitor their content.

Hands-On Projects

Hands-on practice is the core of this course, with weekly guided activities, mini-projects, and a final YouTube video project. Students are encouraged to experiment, create, and iterate through real-world scenarios.

Week 1 - Week 5:

Week 2: Script a 2-minute video on a topic of personal interest.
Week 3: Create a storyboard and shot list for a short video.
Week 4: Practice filming using a smartphone or camera setup.
Week 5: Shoot a short multi-angle scene applying filming techniques learned.

Week 6 - Week 11:

Week 6: Add background music and sound effects to a filmed clip.
Week 7-8: Edit a sample video: trim clips, add transitions and text.
Week 9-10: Create a fully edited 3-minute video with voiceover, subtitles, and visual corrections.
Week 11: Publish your first video on a personalized YouTube channel.

Week 13 - Week 18:

Week 13-14: Design a YouTube logo, channel intro, and outro.
Week 15: Plan a collaboration video with a classmate.
Week 17-18 (Final Project): Produce and publish a complete 5-minute YouTube video on a topic of choice.

Assignments

Weekly assignments are designed to help students consolidate their learning, build a strong workflow, and get feedback on creative and technical aspects. Each task complements the week’s theme, leading up to a professional-level final video project.

Week 1 - Week 5:

Week 1: Identify and present examples of 3 YouTube niches with analysis of their content style.
Week 2: Submit a written script for a 2-minute video.
Week 3: Create a storyboard with minimum 6 frames and a shot list.
Week 4: Submit a raw practice video applying at least 3 different camera angles.
Week 5: Submit a short video shot using the rule of thirds and proper framing.

Week 6 - Week 11:

Week 6: Submit a scene with added music and ambient sound effects.
Week 7-8: Submit a 1-minute edited video including transitions, titles, and background music.
Week 9-10: Submit a color-graded and polished video with subtitles.
Week 11: Share the link to your first published YouTube video.

Week 13 - Week 18:

Week 13-14: Upload a self-designed channel intro/outro.
Week 15-16: Create a collaboration plan (outline, roles, and content idea).
Week 17-18: Submit the final 3-minute video project and receive peer feedback.
