This course delivers an interactive and creative learning journey where students explore the interface, tools, and techniques of Adobe Photoshop. They learn how to manipulate images, apply effects, and design creatively.

Week 1: Introduction to Photoshop

Understanding the Photoshop interface: tools, panels, layers
Setting up a new file: resolution, canvas size, and color modes
Introduction to selection tools: Marquee, Lasso, Magic Wand
Understanding layers and layer management

Week 2: Basic Editing & Tools

Cropping, resizing, and image adjustments (brightness, contrast, saturation)
Using brush, eraser, gradient, and shape tools
Introduction to filters and effects
Adding and editing text (font, style, layer effects)

Week 3: Creative Design Techniques

Working with blend modes and layer styles
Removing backgrounds using selection and masking
Image retouching: blemish removal, skin tone adjustment
Color correction and image enhancements

Week 4: Project Composition & Exporting

Combining images to create a composite scene
Designing posters, banners, and social media posts
Exporting in different formats (JPEG, PNG, PSD)
Introduction to file organization and best practices

Hands-On Projects

Students will complete fun and skill-based design projects using real tools and techniques to gain confidence and build a creative portfolio.

Project 1: Photo Collage Creation

Create a themed collage (e.g., “My Family” or “My Dream Vacation”) using layers and selection tools.

Project 2: Poster Design

Design a creative school event poster (e.g., Sports Day, Art Fair) using text, images, and graphic shapes.

Project 3: Social Media Banner

Create an Instagram or YouTube banner with custom dimensions, background, and effects.

Project 4: Creative Digital Artwork

Final project: Design a creative artwork (e.g., “Save Earth”, “My Favorite Superhero”) combining all learned techniques.

Assignments

Weekly assignments are designed to help students consolidate their learning, build a strong workflow, and get feedback on creative and technical aspects. Each task complements the week’s theme, leading up to a professional-level final video project.

Week 1 – Tool Familiarity

Practice using selection tools to cut and paste parts of an image.
Create a 3-layer image with a background, object, and text.

Week 2 – Basic Editing

Edit an image to improve brightness, crop unnecessary parts, and add a frame.
Apply a gradient background to a text image.

Week 3 – Graphic Design Practice

Design a birthday card using brushes, fonts, and shapes.
Retouch a photo by removing unwanted elements (e.g., blemishes).

Week 4 – Final Artwork Assignment

Submit a digital design composition using at least 5 different tools.
Present your final project in class with a short description of your design idea and process.
