Camera and Equipment Mastery

Use of DSLR, mirrorless, and smartphone cameras.
Exposure triangle: Aperture, ISO, Shutter Speed.
Lens types and their usage.

Composition, Framing & Lighting Editing & Post-Processing

Rule of thirds, leading lines, negative space.
Natural vs. artificial lighting, shadows, and reflectors.
Tools: Lightroom, Photoshop basics & advanced features.
Color correction, cropping, layering, retouching, and monochrome aesthetics.

Genre-Specific Knowledge & Professional Readiness

Portrait, candid, product, event, street, and documentary photography.
Visual storytelling and building themes.
Creating a portfolio, online presence, and social media branding.
Career insights: freelancing, journalism, commercial work.
Legal awareness: copyright and watermarking.

Hands-On Projects

Practical, guided projects that allow students to apply knowledge creatively and build a professional portfolio.

Month 1:

1. Camera Functions Exploration: Handling different camera types and experimenting with settings.
2. Composition Project: Capturing objects using rule of thirds, patterns, and framing.
3. Lighting Practice: Natural light vs. studio light portraits.

Month 2:

4. Manual Mode Mastery: Capturing scenes using manual settings.
5. Motion Photography: Freeze vs. blur a subject in motion.
6. Portrait Session: Mini shoot involving props, posing, and backgrounds.
7. Black-and-White Series: Creating a monochrome photo story.

Month 3:

8. Portfolio Compilation: Selecting and refining top 10–15 images.
9. Product/Commercial Photography: Photographing products with attention to background and lighting.
10. Event Photography: Capturing a school or staged event.
11. Final Project: Thematic photo story of 15 images, reviewed and exhibited.

Assignments

Each week includes assignments to reinforce learning, boost observation, and build creative discipline.

Month 1:

Week 1: Write a brief history of photography and identify 3 photography genres.
Week 2: Submit 3 images taken with different aperture settings and describe effects.
Week 3: Create a composition photo collage using rules learned.
Week 4: Portraits using natural and artificial light – comparison assignment.
Week 5: Basic editing task – crop, adjust brightness/contrast of selected photo.
Week 6: Capture two genres (e.g., nature & product) and describe challenges faced.

Month 2:

Week 7: Shoot in full manual mode and explain your setting choices.
Week 8: Submit photos from various angles/perspectives of one subject.
Week 9: Mini portrait shoot – submit top 3 images with concept explanation.
Week 10: Submit a series of 5 photos that tell a visual story.
Week 11: Edit a portrait using layers, retouching, and color adjustments.
Week 12: Submit 5 black-and-white edited images with captions.

Month 3:

Week 13–14: Organize your portfolio digitally; select top 10 images.
Week 15–16: Create and launch an Instagram account or online profile for your work.
Week 17–18: Product shoot – submit 3 final product images with different angles.
Week 19–20: Event coverage – submit 5 shots capturing storytelling moments.
Week 21–22: Research 2 photography career paths and write a reflection on your interest.
Week 23–24: Final project presentation: Submit 15-image series + project summary write-up.
